Position Size Calculator for Topstep

Topstep is a leader in the futures prop space. Futures trading uses contracts instead of lots, and Topstep has strict Daily Loss Limits. This calculator helps you size positions to respect these limits.

Futures contract sizing is distinct from forex lots. 1 contract of ES (S&P 500) moves $50 per point, whereas NQ (Nasdaq) moves $20 per point. Topstep's trailing drawdown (in some accounts) and hard Daily Loss Limit mean you calculate risk based on "ticks" rather than pips. A few ticks of slippage in futures can violate rules faster than in forex.

Important Notice

Contract limits depend on your account size and step. A $50k Buying Power account typically starts with a max of 5 contracts, but your risk management (stop loss) should usually dictate a smaller size than the max allowed.
