Backtesting Software with Chart Replay
Replay forex and gold charts bar by bar on real 1-minute history, with the future hidden. Trade your rules with realistic fills and costs, then see what your sample actually proves.
Most Backtests Fool the Trader Running Them
With the right side of the chart in view, every setup looks obvious. Skip the spread, round the fills, stop at 20 trades, and what you have is a story, not evidence. A useful backtest hides the future, charges real costs and tells you when the sample is too small to mean anything.
Replay the Past as If It Were Live
Orders and Fills That Hold Up
Market, limit and stop orders, stop loss and take profit you drag on the chart, and sizing in lots or risk %.
Every bar between jumps is processed, so stops, targets and pending orders are never skipped. When a bar touches both your stop and your target, the bar magnifier checks the 1-minute data inside it; the worse outcome is assumed only when both happen in the same minute. Spread (with values per session), commission per lot and slippage on stop exits are charged, and results show gross and net. Rewinding undoes the trades that came after.
Statistics That Admit Uncertainty
Net expectancy in R with a 95% interval, and a plain verdict when the sample is too small to tell.
Win rate with a Wilson interval, profit factor, max drawdown and the longest losing streak. A Monte Carlo reshuffle of trade order shows the median and 95th-percentile drawdown and streak. Breakdowns by session, tag and symbol flag small samples, and a clearly labelled estimate checks the results against a prop firm daily loss limit.
Real 1-Minute History, Any Date
EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, AUDUSD and USDCAD from 2003, NZDUSD from 2005 and gold (XAUUSD) from 2009, in UTC and updated monthly.
Jump to any date and time, play, pause or reverse at 0.25× to 10×, on M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4 or D1. The chart loads around the date you pick and extends in both directions. Indicators (oscillators in their own panes), drawing tools, full-screen mode and price follow are built in. Blind mode starts at a random point, hides the dates and lets you trade only at bar close, so hindsight stays out.

Real 1-minute price history in UTC: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, AUDUSD and USDCAD from 2003, NZDUSD from 2005 and gold (XAUUSD) from 2009, updated monthly. The chart runs on M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4 and D1. There is no tick data, and indices, stocks and crypto are not in the replay.
Chart replay, which means manual backtesting. You move through the chart bar by bar with the future hidden and trade it the way you would live. Fips does not run coded strategies, expert advisors or parameter optimisation. The blog guide "How to Backtest a Trading Strategy" walks through the method step by step.
Every bar between jumps is processed, so stops, targets and pending orders are never skipped. Bars that touch both stop and target are resolved with the 1-minute data inside them; the worse outcome is assumed only when both happen in the same minute. Spread (per session), commission per lot and slippage on stop exits are included. No backtest matches live trading exactly: there is no tick data, and real spreads and slippage vary, so read the results as an estimate.
Turn on blind mode: the replay starts at a random point, the dates are hidden and you can only trade at bar close. Log the setups you skip as well, so you can see whether you only picked the winners.
