How to use the position size calculator

Get the lot size from the risk you accept, priced for the instrument you trade.

Open Risk Calculators in the sidebar. No account? The free lot size calculator works in the browser, and the pip value calculator shows what one pip is worth.

Simple mode

  1. Pick the Instrument — forex majors and crosses, metals, indices or crypto — and the Direction.
  2. Enter your Account balance and Risk per trade, as a percentage or an amount.
  3. Enter the Entry price, Leverage and your Stop loss (and Take profit) in pips or price.

The result shows lots, units, pip value, margin, risk : reward and the stop and target prices.

With costs

Switch to With costs to include spread, slippage, commission per lot and overnight swap. Commission is counted for both sides of the trade.

How lots are rounded

Lots are rounded down to 0.01, so the position never risks more than you asked for. If the size rounds below 0.01 lots, Fips warns you.

Warnings

Fips flags a risk above 5% of the account, margin larger than the balance, a reward smaller than the risk, and costs that eat most of the target.

Save a setup

Save setup keeps up to eight setups on this device. Click one later to load every input back. Copy summary copies the whole trade plan.
